Update: Earthquake strikes region close to Severo-Kuril’sk, Russia on July 31 – 5.2 magnitude registered

A 5.2 magnitude quake was detected near Severo-Kuril’sk Thursday night, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor, which shook the area at 13:01 UTC (23:01 local time), was centered roughly 277 km south-southwest of Severo-Kuril’sk. It occurred at a depth of 29 km. The magnitude was originally reported as 5.0 but later upgraded to 5.2.
