A 5.0 magnitude quake was detected close to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky around midday Wednesday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

At 02:05 UTC (13:05 local time), the region was jolted by a tremor. The earthquake hit at a depth of 10 km, with its epicenter roughly 167 km southeast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
