7.4 magnitude earthquake reported close to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Russia on July 20

A 7.4 magnitude quake was registered near Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky Sunday afternoon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor rocked the area at 06:49 UTC (17:49 local time). It occurred at a depth of 20 km with the epicenter situated roughly 144 km east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.

Tremors last week

During the past week, the region has experienced four quakes with a magnitude 2.5 or higher, two of them larger than magnitude 7. The biggest, a 7.0 magnitude earthquake, shook in the same region prior to this quake.
