Update: 7.4 magnitude earthquake hits near Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Russia on July 20

A 7.4 magnitude quake was detected near Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky Sunday afternoon, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The tremor slammed at 06:49 UTC (17:49 local time), with its epicenter situated approximately 144 km east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and a depth of 20 km.

Tremors last week

Last week, the area has experienced four quakes of magnitude 2.5 or above, two of them larger than magnitude 7. The biggest, a 7.0 magnitude earthquake, was registered in the same region prior to this quake.
