July 19: Earthquake measuring 5.1 strikes region close to Luwuk, Indonesia

BANGGAI REGENCY, Central Sulawesi—the U.S. Geological Survey reported that a 5.1 magnitude quake occurred near Luwuk Saturday afternoon.

The tremor jolted at 06:53 UTC (14:53 local time), with its epicenter located roughly 62 km east-northeast of Luwuk and a depth of 10 km.

Pair of equally strong tremors recorded in past week

Last week, there were two tremors above magnitude 2.5 in the area, both registering 4.5. One occurred near Gorontalo three days earlier, and the other hit close to Luwuk on July 14.
