MENDOCINO COUNTY, CA — the U.S. Geological Survey reported that a preliminary 2.0 magnitude quake occurred near Laytonville Saturday afternoon.
The tremor struck the area at 6:46 p.m. It occurred at a depth of just 0.3 miles with the epicenter positioned approximately 11 miles north-northwest of Laytonville.

Past week’s quakes
Over the last week, there have been two tremors, greater than magnitude 2.5, in the region. The largest, a 3.0 magnitude earthquake, was registered near Petrolia five days ago, while a smaller 2.9 magnitude quake struck close to Lake Pillsbury on July 6.
