MENDOCINO COUNTY, CA — A preliminary 2.0 magnitude quake was registered near Laytonville Saturday afternoon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
A tremor struck the area at 6:46 p.m. The earthquake’s epicenter was positioned approximately 11 miles north-northwest of Laytonville and occurred at a depth of just 0.3 miles.

Tremors last week
In the past week, the region has experienced two earthquakes, greater than magnitude 2.5. The larger, a 3.0 magnitude event, was detected near Petrolia five days earlier. The second, with a magnitude of 2.9, struck close to Lake Pillsbury on July 6.
