Update: Earthquake measuring 2.0 shakes area close to Laytonville, CA on July 12

MENDOCINO COUNTY, CA — the U.S. Geological Survey reported that a preliminary 2.0 magnitude quake occurred close to Laytonville Saturday afternoon.

The tremor struck at 6:46 p.m., with its epicenter positioned roughly 11 miles north-northwest of Laytonville and a depth of just 0.3 miles.

Quakes past week

During the last week, two tremors, greater than magnitude 2.5, have been centered nearby. The stronger, a magnitude 3.0 quake, was recorded near Petrolia five days ago. The other, measuring 2.9, occurred near Lake Pillsbury on July 6.
