HUMBOLDT COUNTY, CA — the U.S. Geological Survey reported that a preliminary 2.3 magnitude quake struck close to Petrolia Saturday morning.

The tremor shook at 9:50 a.m. (8:50 a.m. local time), with its epicenter located approximately 22 miles west-northwest of Petrolia and a depth of 13 miles.

Over the last week, there have been seven tremors with a magnitude 2.5 or greater centered nearby. The largest one was a 3.1 earthquake that rattled the same region two days ago.
