HUMBOLDT COUNTY, CA — A preliminary 2.3 magnitude quake was recorded near Petrolia Saturday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

A tremor shook the area at 9:50 a.m. (8:50 a.m. local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was situated about 22 miles west-northwest of Petrolia and occurred at a depth of 13 miles.

Last week, the region has experienced seven quakes of magnitude 2.5 or greater. The biggest, a 3.1 magnitude earthquake, was detected in the same region two days earlier.
