Update: July 11 – 3.4 magnitude earthquake detected near Petrolia, CA

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, CA — According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a preliminary 3.4 magnitude quake rattled near Petrolia Friday morning.

It was reported that a tremor shook the region at 8:06 a.m. (7:06 a.m. local time). The epicenter was positioned about 34 miles west-northwest of Petrolia, at a depth of 7 miles.

Tremors past week

Last week, the area has experienced six quakes with a magnitude 2.5 or greater. The biggest, a 3.1 magnitude earthquake, was reported in the same region one day ago.
