Update: Earthquake shakes region close to Petrolia, CA on July 11 – 3.4 magnitude recorded

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, CA — the U.S. Geological Survey reported that a preliminary 3.4 magnitude quake occurred near Petrolia Friday morning.

It was reported that a tremor rattled the area at 8:06 a.m. (7:06 a.m. local time). The epicenter was situated about 34 miles west-northwest of Petrolia, at a depth of 7 miles.

Tremors last week

Over the last week, six tremors with a magnitude 2.5 or higher have been registered in the area. The strongest, a 3.1 magnitude quake, was detected in the same region one day ago.
