Update: Earthquake hits region close to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Russia on Sept. 13 – 7.7 magnitude registered

A 7.7 magnitude quake was recorded near Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky Saturday afternoon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

It was reported that a tremor rocked the area at 02:37 UTC (14:37 local time). The epicenter was located about 120 km east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, at a depth of 10 km.

A Tsunami statement regarding the earthquake has been issued by the National Tsunami Center. For the latest information, visit tsunami.gov.

Tremors past week

Six quakes of magnitude 2.5 or greater were detected in the region last week. The largest one was a 5.2 earthquake that was reported in the same area five days ago.
