A 7.0 magnitude quake was registered close to Macquarie Island region Monday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.
The tremor rocked the area at 22:10 UTC (08:10 local time). It occurred at a depth of 31 km with the epicenter located of Macquarie Island region. The magnitude was originally reported as 6.9 but later upgraded to 7.0.
