Update: Earthquake measuring 6.2 slams area near Ternate, Indonesia on April 2

A 6.2 magnitude quake rocked close to Ternate at midday on Thursday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor shook the region at 03:23 UTC (12:23 local time). It occurred at a depth of 35 km with the epicenter about 111 km west-northwest of Ternate. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.9 event, but later upgraded it to 6.2.
