Update: 5.3 magnitude earthquake shakes close to Ternate, Indonesia on April 3

A 5.3 magnitude quake occurred near Ternate on Friday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The tremor jolted the area at 01:44 UTC (10:44 local time). It occurred at a depth of 35 km with the epicenter roughly 123 km west of Ternate.

Tremors last week

Seven quakes with a magnitude 5.5 or higher have been recorded in the region in the past week. The largest one was a 7.4 earthquake that was registered in the same region on Apr. 2.
