Update: Earthquake jolts region close to Santiago, Philippines on Oct. 19 – 5.1 magnitude detected

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.1 magnitude quake struck near Santiago Sunday morning.

The tremor, which hit the area at 01:34 UTC (09:34 local time), was centered approximately 76 km east-southeast of Santiago. It occurred at a depth of 10 km. The magnitude was originally reported as 5.2 but later downgraded to 5.1.

Over the last week, there have been 11 earthquakes of magnitude 2.5 or greater centered nearby. The largest, measuring 5.5, occurred close to Baculin five days earlier.
