According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.1 magnitude quake occurred close to South Sandwich Islands region on Friday around midday.

The tremor shook at 13:55 UTC (11:55 local time), with its epicenter located of South Sandwich Islands region and a depth of 52 km. The magnitude was originally reported as 5.2 but later downgraded to 5.1.
