Update: Earthquake of 5.1 magnitude reported close to South Sandwich Islands region on Nov. 4

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.1 magnitude quake occurred near South Sandwich Islands region Tuesday morning.

At 03:20 UTC (01:20 local time), the region was struck by a tremor. The earthquake hit at a depth of 19 km, with its epicenter of South Sandwich Islands region.

Closeby area hit by two earthquakes over the week

During the past week, there have been two tremors greater than magnitude 2.5 centered in the same area. The largest, a 5.2 magnitude earthquake, jolted three days earlier, while the other, measuring 5.0, hit on November 31.
