Update: June 10 – 5.0 magnitude earthquake detected near Sardinal, Costa Rica

A 5.0 magnitude quake rattled close to Sardinal on Wednesday night, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

A tremor hit the area at 03:01 UTC (21:01 local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was roughly 10 km northwest of Sardinal and occurred at a depth of 66 km. The magnitude was originally reported as 5.1 but later downgraded to 5.0.

According to the USGS DYFI report, residents in several cities, including San Juan del Sur, Sámara, Nicoya and Santa Cruz, reported feeling the tremor.
