Update: April 2 – 5.0 magnitude earthquake detected near Ternate, Indonesia

A 5.0 magnitude quake hit near Ternate on Thursday afternoon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor rattled the area at 08:52 UTC (17:52 local time). It occurred at a depth of 35 km with the epicenter about 119 km northwest of Ternate. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.1 event, but later downgraded it to 5.0.
