Update: July 28 – 5.1 magnitude earthquake recorded near Rumonge, Burundi

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.1 magnitude quake occurred close to Rumonge Monday afternoon.

At 13:38 UTC (15:38 local time), the region was jolted by a tremor. The earthquake struck at a depth of 10 km, with its epicenter about 33 km northwest of Rumonge.

Light shaking has been reported and people reported experiencing the earthquake in a couple of cities, including Kigali and Bujumbura, according to the USGS DYFI report.
