Update: Earthquake of 5.0 magnitude detected near Severo-Kuril’sk, Russia on July 30

A 5.0 magnitude quake was registered near Severo-Kuril’sk Wednesday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor hit the area at 19:03 UTC (05:03 local time). It occurred at a depth of 60 km with the epicenter situated roughly 91 km east-southeast of Severo-Kuril’sk.

Tremors past week

Over the last week, there have been six tremors with a magnitude 5.5 or greater centered nearby. The biggest, a 5.9 magnitude quake, was reported in the same region prior to this quake.
