According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.0 magnitude quake occurred near Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky around midday Monday.

The tremor hit the area at 01:49 UTC (12:49 local time). It occurred at a depth of 52 km with the epicenter located roughly 130 km southeast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.

Last week, there has been one more tremor of magnitude 4.8 centered in the region. Five days ago, it too was registered close to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
