Update: Seismic activity on Aug. 1 – 5.0 magnitude earthquake close to Vilyuchinsk, Russia registered

A 5.0 magnitude quake was recorded near Vilyuchinsk Friday afternoon, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The tremor shook the area at 05:02 UTC (16:02 local time). It occurred at a depth of 10 km with the epicenter located approximately 214 km south-southeast of Vilyuchinsk.

Tremors last week

Seven tremors with a magnitude 5.5 or above have been detected in the region over the last week. The largest, measuring 6.1, rocked the same region two days ago.
