According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.0 magnitude quake occurred near Ozernovskiy Wednesday afternoon.
The tremor, which shook the area at 06:37 UTC (17:37 local time), was centered roughly 111 km east-southeast of Ozernovskiy. It occurred at a depth of 35 km.

Over the last week, there have been eight quakes of magnitude 2.5 or higher centered nearby, three of them larger than magnitude 5.5. The strongest, a 5.9 magnitude quake, was detected close to Severo-Kuril’sk prior to this quake.
