5.0 magnitude earthquake detected close to Ruteng, Indonesia on Aug. 25

A 5.0 magnitude quake rattled near Ruteng on Tuesday night, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

A tremor jolted the area at 14:58 UTC (22:58 local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was roughly 54 km north-northeast of Ruteng and occurred at a depth of 10 km.

43 quakes of magnitude 2.5 or higher were reported in the region last week, three of them larger than magnitude 5.5. The largest, measuring 5.8, shook the same region on Aug. 20.
