The National Weather Service issued a weather alert at 10:20 p.m. on Wednesday for gusty winds until 10:45 p.m. for Hockley and Lubbock counties.

Residents should be prepared for wind gusts of up to 55 mph.

“At 10:19 p.m., trained weather spotters reported gusty winds and 1/2 mile visibility due to blowing dust near Ropseville, or 10 miles southwest of Lubbock, moving north at 50 mph,” says the NWS. “Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects.”

Locations impacted by the alert include Smyer, Ropesville, Levelland, Buffalo Springs, Ransom Canyon, Wolfforth, Texas Tech University, Slide, Downtown Lubbock, Woodrow and Reese Center.

The NWS adds, “If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until midnight for northwestern Texas.”
