On Sunday at 6:25 p.m. the National Weather Service issued a special weather statement until 7 p.m. for Central Colorado.

Residents may experience wind gusts of up to 50 mph.

“At 6:24 p.m., Doppler radar tracked thundershowers along a line extending from 8 miles northeast of Center to 8 miles northwest of Alamosa to 6 miles east of Sanford. Movement was east at 55 mph,” states the NWS. “Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects.”

Locations impacted by the alert include Alamosa, San Luis Valley Airport, Sanford, Blanca, Crestone, Hooper, Great Sand Dunes, Crestone Peak, Alamosa East, San Luis Lake, San Acacio, Fort Garland, Mosca and Blanca Peak.

The NWS comments, “If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.”

• Del Norte Vicinity/Northern San Luis Valley below 8,500 ft

• Alamosa Vicinity/Central San Luis Valley below 8,500 ft

• Southern San Luis Valley

• Northern Sangre de Cristo Mountains between 8,500 and 11,000 ft

• Northern Sangre de Cristo Mountains above 11,000 ft

• Southern Sangre de Cristo Mountains between 7,500 and 11,000 ft

• Southern Sangre de Cristo Mountains above 11,000 ft

• Wet Mountain Valley below 8,500 ft
