A special weather statement was released by the National Weather Service on Monday at 2:17 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. for Upper Rio Grande Valley/Eastern San Juan Mountains below 10,000 ft, Eastern San Juan Mountains above 10,000 ft, Alamosa Vicinity/Central San Luis Valley below 8,500 ft and Southern San Luis Valley.
Residents may experience wind gusts of up to 50 mph.
“At 2:16 p.m., emergency management reported a showers and weak thunderstorms producing blowing dust in the Alamosa region. The activity was moving to the east at 20 mph,” according to the NWS. “Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects.”
Locations impacted by the alert include Alamosa East, La Jara, Capulin, San Luis Valley Airport, Bountiful, Alamosa and Sanford.
According to the NWS, “If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.”
