A 5.0 magnitude quake shook close to Vilyuchinsk on Wednesday around midday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor, which struck the area at 02:48 UTC (13:48 local time), was centered roughly 174 km south-southeast of Vilyuchinsk. It occurred at a depth of 10 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 4.9 event, but later upgraded it to 5.0.
