IMPERIAL COUNTY, CA — According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 2.5 magnitude quake occurred near Calipatria Friday morning.

At 1:19 a.m., the region was rattled by a tremor. The earthquake shook at a depth of just 3 miles, with its epicenter approximately 7 miles west-northwest of Calipatria.

Past week’s tremors

Over the last week, two quakes, greater than magnitude 2.5, have been centered nearby. The stronger, a magnitude 3.7 quake, was registered close to Borrego Springs prior to this quake. The other, measuring 2.5, was felt close to Progreso, B.C. on July 4.
