CHAH AB, Takhar — According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.0 magnitude quake jolted near Rustāq Saturday night.

The tremor, which hit the area at 19:03 UTC (23:33 local time), was centered approximately 27 km northeast of Rustāq. It occurred at a depth of 10 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 4.9 event, but later upgraded it to 5.0.

Matching magnitude tremors reported this week

Two tremors, greater than magnitude 2.5, each with a magnitude of 4.5, have been registered in the region in the past week. The first was detected close to Yangī Qal‘ah three days ago, and the second shook near Rustāq on October 29.
