A 5.3 magnitude quake was detected near Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky Sunday afternoon, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The tremor struck the area at 07:18 UTC (18:18 local time). It occurred at a depth of 10 km with the epicenter situated about 144 km east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
