HUMBOLDT COUNTY, CA — According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a preliminary 2.3 magnitude quake occurred near Petrolia Saturday morning.

A tremor struck the area at 9:50 a.m. (8:50 a.m. local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was positioned roughly 22 miles west-northwest of Petrolia and occurred at a depth of 13 miles.

Tremors last week

Over the last week, seven quakes of magnitude 2.5 or above have been reported in the region. The strongest, a 3.1 magnitude quake, struck the same region two days earlier.
