Around midday Tuesday, a 5.0 magnitude quake was detected close to Vilyuchinsk, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

It was reported that a tremor hit the area at 00:49 UTC (11:49 local time). The epicenter was situated about 179 km south-southeast of Vilyuchinsk, at a depth of 10 km. The magnitude was originally reported as 4.9 but later upgraded to 5.0.
