Update: Earthquake strikes region close to Sabang, Indonesia on July 28 – 6.4 magnitude reported

SABANG CITY, Aceh — around midnight Monday, a 6.4 magnitude quake was registered near Sabang, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor slammed the area at 18:41 UTC (00:41 local time). It occurred at a depth of 21 km with the epicenter situated about 264 km west-northwest of Sabang. Seismologists first reported it as a 6.5 event, but later downgraded it to 6.4.
