HUMBOLDT COUNTY, CA — According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a preliminary 2.9 magnitude quake rattled near Petrolia Thursday night.

The tremor struck at 11:39 p.m. (10:39 p.m. local time), with its epicenter positioned roughly 31 miles west-northwest of Petrolia and a depth of 8 miles.
