Update: Earthquake of 5.7 magnitude recorded near Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Russia on July 20

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.7 magnitude quake shook close to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky Sunday afternoon.

It was reported that a tremor jolted the region at 07:12 UTC (18:12 local time). The epicenter was situated about 156 km east-southeast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, at a depth of 10 km.

Quakes last week

During the past week, five tremors of magnitude 7 or above have been detected in the area, five of them larger than magnitude 7. The strongest, a 7.5 magnitude quake, hit the same region prior to this quake.
