EL LOA, Antofagasta — A 5.2 magnitude quake was reported close to Calama Thursday evening, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
It was reported that a tremor struck the region at 00:46 UTC (20:46 local time). The epicenter was located about 40 km northeast of Calama, at a depth of 106 km.

Those who noticed the earthquake are encouraged to report it via the USGS Felt Report form. The agency has so far received 4 reports via its online form from people who say they experienced the quake. According to the USGS DYFI report, weak shaking was registered and several people in Iquique and the surrounding area reported feeling the tremor.

Last week’s quake
Over the last week, one more magnitude 4.5 quake was centered in the area. The event was detected near Calama too, four days ago.
