According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.0 magnitude quake rattled near Vilyuchinsk Tuesday afternoon.

At 05:14 UTC (16:14 local time), the region was jolted by a tremor. The earthquake struck at a depth of 10 km, with its epicenter about 196 km southeast of Vilyuchinsk. Seismologists first reported it as a 4.8 event, but later upgraded it to 5.0.
