A 5.0 magnitude quake was registered near Vilyuchinsk Thursday night, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor, which hit the region at 10:40 UTC (21:40 local time), was centered about 189 km south-southeast of Vilyuchinsk. It occurred at a depth of 10 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 4.9 event, but later upgraded it to 5.0.
