Update: Earthquake measuring 5.0 shakes area close to Ozernovskiy, Russia on Aug. 1

The U.S. Geological Survey reported that a 5.0 magnitude quake occurred near Ozernovskiy on Friday around midnight.

The tremor hit at 13:26 UTC (00:26 local time), with its epicenter situated roughly 128 km east-southeast of Ozernovskiy and a depth of 35 km. The magnitude was originally reported as 4.9 but later upgraded to 5.0.

During the past week, six tremors with a magnitude 5.5 or above have been detected in the region. The biggest, a 6.0 magnitude quake, was registered close to Vilyuchinsk three days earlier.
