Update: Earthquake measuring 3.4 shakes area near Petrolia, CA on July 11

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, CA — the U.S. Geological Survey reported that a preliminary 3.4 magnitude quake rattled close to Petrolia Friday morning.

At 8:06 a.m. (7:06 a.m. local time), the region was struck by a tremor. The earthquake struck at a depth of 7 miles, with its epicenter about 34 miles west-northwest of Petrolia.
