Wednesday night, a 2.7 magnitude quake was recorded close to Petrolia, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
A tremor shook the region at 11:43 p.m. The earthquake’s epicenter was located about 12 miles west of Petrolia and occurred at a depth of 13 miles.

Tremors past week
Over the last week, the area has experienced eight earthquakes with a magnitude 2.5 or greater. The biggest, a 3.1 magnitude quake, was detected close to Arcata four days earlier.
