Update: Earthquake measuring 2.1 shakes area near Petrolia, CA on July 13

Sunday morning, a preliminary 2.1 magnitude quake was detected close to Petrolia, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

A tremor struck the region at 7:39 a.m. The earthquake’s epicenter was located about 10 miles west-northwest of Petrolia and occurred at a depth of 12 miles.

Tremors last week

In the past week, seven quakes with a magnitude 2.5 or higher have been reported in the area. The strongest, a 3.1 magnitude quake, struck the same region three days earlier.
