At 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday, the National Weather Service released an updated dust storm warning in effect until 7:45 p.m. for El Paso and Hudspeth counties.

“At 6:44 p.m., an area of blowing dust was over El Paso and the Lower Valley,” adds the NWS. “Dangerous life-threatening travel.”

Locations impacted by the warning include Cornudas Mountains, Tornillo, Homestead Meadows, Orogrande, Agua Dulce, Biggs Field, Dairyland, Indian Cliffs Ranch, Chaparral, East El Paso, Loma Linda, Franklin Mountains State Park, West El Paso, Fabens, Fort Bliss, Clint, Butterfield, Mission Valley, Hueco Mountain Estates and Sparks. This includes the following highways: Interstate 10 in Texas between mile markers 9 and 54. Highway 54 in New Mexico between mile markers 1 and 39.

The NWS adds, “Dust storms lead to dangerous driving conditions with visibility reduced to near zero. If driving, avoid dust storms if possible. If caught in one, pull off the road, turn off your lights and keep your foot off the brake.”
