System type: Tropical storm
System name: Barry
The National Hurricane Center’s 7 pm Sunday advisory reported that the weather system gained sufficient intensity to be named Barry. The tropical depression was upgraded to a tropical storm with winds of 45 mph. Tropical Storm Barry’s journey: it developed in the Gulf of Mexico, made its way to the Atlantic Ocean. The 10 a.m. report was the first to confirm the system’s new name. Tropical Storm Barry is currently in the Atlantic Ocean, 60 miles southeast of Tampico Mexico. With maximum sustained winds of 45 mph, it is moving to the northwest at 8 mph.
“… the storm is expected to make landfall within the tropical storm warning area in the next several hours and then move inland over eastern Mexico later tonight”, analysts explained. They also said “Little change is strength is anticipated before Barry makes landfall, but rapid weakening is expected to begin after the storm moves inland.”
Today, the system strengthened enough to get a name: Tropical Storm Barry. It found new strength and has evolved from a tropical depression into a tropical storm with sustained winds of 45 mph. The name gain was first mentioned in the 10 a.m. update.
