System name: Barry
The National Hurricane Center’s 4 pm Sunday advisory reported that the system, which had been named Barry, became a tropical storm with sustained winds of 45 mph after intensifying from a tropical depression. The name gain was first announced in the 10 a.m. update. Tropical Storm Barry is 35 miles east-northeast of Tuxpan Mexico and 95 miles southeast of Tampico Mexico. With maximum sustained winds of 45 mph, it is moving to the northwest at 9 mph.
“… the storm is expected to make landfall this evening and then move inland over eastern Mexico later tonight”, analysts explained. They also said “Little change is strength is anticipated before Barry makes landfall, but rapid weakening is expected to begin after the storm moves inland.”
Today, the system that was once a tropical depression has now officially been named Tropical Storm Barry as it has strengthened into a tropical storm. The 10 a.m. report was the first to confirm the system’s new name.

Hazards affecting land
Rainfall. Tropical Storm Barry is expected to produce rainfall totals of 3 to 6 inches, with isolated maximum totals of 10 inches,
Across portions of the Mexican states of Veracruz, San Luis Potosi,
And Tamaulipas through Monday. This rainfall may produce life-threatening flooding and mudslides, especially in areas of steep terrain.
