System name: Alvin

As per the National Hurricane Center’s 10 pm Friday update, Tropical Storm Alvin is currently at the Pacific Ocean, 265 miles south of the Southern Tip of Baja California. With maximum sustained winds of 45 mph, it is moving north at 10 mph.

“Continued weakening is forecast, and Alvin is expected to become a remnant low on Saturday and dissipate entirely on Sunday” analysts explained.

Yesterday (Thursday)

The tropical depression named Alvin developed into a tropical storm with winds of 45 mph. Alvin was previously forecasted as a tropical depression but has since gained strength. The system’s new name was first made public in yesterday’s 10 a.m. advisory.

Hazards affecting land

Surf. Swells generated by Alvin will affect portions of the coasts of west-central and southwestern Mexico and the southern Baja California Peninsula through the weekend. These swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions.
